We are seeking an experienced and motivated Forklift Fleet Service Manager to lead our team of equipment technicians. In this hands-on leadership role, you will actively work on equipment alongside your team while overseeing the service, repair, and maintenance of our fleet of forklifts, aerial lift equipment, and other powered industrial warehouse equipment. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with deep technical expertise in warehouse material handling equipment, exceptional organizational abilities, and outstanding communication skills to effectively manage technicians, coordinate with operations teams, and ensure equipment reliability and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a hands-on working manager: actively participate in servicing, repairing, and maintaining equipment when needed to support the team, troubleshoot issues, and maintain high standards of workmanship.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of equipment technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster a high-performing, safety-focused team.
  • Oversee all daily service, repair, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting activities for forklifts, aerial lifts, and powered industrial equipment to minimize downtime and maximize equipment uptime.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with manufacturer recommendations, OSHA regulations, and industry safety standards.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues; coordinate major repairs; and maintain detailed service records.
  • Manage inventory of parts, tools, and supplies to support efficient operations and control costs.
  • Collaborate with warehouse operations, management, and external vendors to prioritize repairs, schedule work, and resolve equipment-related issues quickly.
  • Work in conjunction with our Safety Director to continuously improve our current safety program, including protocols, training, and compliance initiatives related to powered industrial equipment.
  • Partner with our Continuous Improvement Director to identify opportunities, facilitate better processes, and implement enhancements in maintenance workflows, efficiency, and equipment reliability.
  • Collaborate with our Content Creation Director to produce high-quality training and safety videos for technicians and operational staff.
  • Monitor equipment performance metrics, track repair history, and identify trends to recommend improvements or replacements.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, adhering to company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, safety briefings, and training sessions to promote continuous improvement and skill development.
  • Prepare reports on fleet status, maintenance costs, technician productivity, and other key performance indicators.
  • Assist in budgeting for maintenance activities, parts procurement, and equipment acquisitions as needed.

Qualifications

  • Proven expert-level knowledge of warehouse equipment, including forklifts (electric, LP, diesel), aerial work platforms, scissor lifts, order pickers, pallet jacks, and other powered industrial trucks.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in equipment maintenance and repair, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role over technicians.
  • Strong technical background in mechanical systems, hydraulics, electrical diagnostics, and troubleshooting of material handling equipment.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, train, and manage a team effectively.
  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) for interacting with technicians, operations staff, vendors, and management.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities to prioritize tasks, manage workflows, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with maintenance software, work order systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) for tracking and reporting.
  • Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA, ANSI standards for powered industrial trucks and aerial lifts).
  • Valid driver’s license required; forklift/aerial lift certification or ability to obtain preferred.
